BLACKOUT CURTAINS SIZES AND INSTALLATION:

0

Curtains as is evident from the name are the curtains or drapes that block the light from coming inside and from going outside. You know that these types of curtains were first used during ww2 to evade getting their houses or shelters from being bombed out of existence. Nowadays these are used to maintain privacy, keep out the extra noise, and get a full, peaceful sleep at night.

In this blog, we will discuss the blackout curtains‘ available sizes and their installation guide. Mostly available blackout curtains come in widths of 42 to 52 inches per panel of the curtain with a variety of lengths, but you can also find them in extra small and extra large sizes as well according to our needs.

You can try the below-listed points to get the most out of your blackout windows.

Install the rod higher and a wraparound one so that no light escapes from the top.

Increase the length of the rod about 2 to 3 inches past the window frame

Curtain size can enhance the appearance of an odd window. It also affects the function of the drapes and changes the mood of a room. Finding out the right size for the window is a hefty responsibility and can be done with ease if properly understood.

Measure the windows width, length& base full-length. These are the basic required measurements. Additional inches may be added for various curtains.

Determine the width of the window should remain exposed when the curtains are open. Drapes lined, interlined, blackout lined all require an extra 25 percent of window width with an additional 15 to 25 percent of base width for the finished curtain width. For e.g., if the base width is 60 inches and the curtain is blackout-lined, the final must be around 75 inches wide to expose the whole window when open.

Decide how much light-blocking you want. To minimize light bleeding from edges extend them past the window from all sides minimum of 18 inches. A window of 40 inches width and 36 inches length will need a blackout curtain of 76 inches width and 72 inches length.

Consider the size of the window according to the wall and room. For example, a small window on a large wall can be made to look wider with ruffled curtains that will allow the complete window to be exposed when the curtains are pulled apart. Adding ruffles on the bottom will also increase people’s perception of the length of the window. And with a valance on top of the curtains further increases the false length of the window size.

Decide on the hardware and install it where the curtains will hang. Measure the width of the window, not including the finials. Also, calculate where you want the drape length to end and fall against the wall. For example the completed length of a rod with wood rings is measured from the required height to the bottom of the ring. If you want to conceal the track on a rod with carriers, the completed length is from the required length to the top of the track. The completed length is from the target length to the bottom of the track if the track is left uncovered.
